Librarian’s Report

In 2003-04 the Library gained a new volunteer, Ann Yos, who has joined me and Martha DeNormandie to work in the Church Library.

The year was spent continuing the project of weeding and re-cataloging the books, magazines and tapes, and re-organizing the shelves using a color-coded system.  Two workshop last spring speeded the job along.  We wait now for the Library make-over!

A few new books were donated – poet Thom Ward have us several of contemporary poetry – and some were purchased using Sunday sermon references to give us ideas.  Many new books were displayed on the shelves outside the Stearns Room.

The biggest purchase was a new set of “The New Interpreter’s Bible” which was suggested by Roger Paine.

May Market Report

May Market lost a true friend this week. Jane Mueller was a devoted worker, skilled artisan and always willing to do the job needing to be done. She would arrive with silver polish in hand to spruce up our donations and then repair and sort all our jewelry. We could always count on Jane to be there even after she moved to Carlton Willard in Bedford.  Her memorial service today (May 25, 2004) was a great testimony to how much she cared for others.

It may be an "off-year" for the semi-annual May Market but it sure doesn't feel like it. Within a week of last year's sale we had calls about donations. We have been fortunate that the new owners of Astrid Donaldson's barn (Barn One), Cathy and Chris Rogers, have allowed us to continue to store the generous donations of parishioners and friends and we have secured another barn space which is already full.

We may lose the use of Barn One, due to renovations this fall, so we are in desperate need of storage space. Anyone know of anywhere we can store "trash and treasures" with easy access?

STORAGE SPACE NEEDED!
Barn or garage

We are also very grateful to Gabrielle Brennikmeyer, Graham Atkin, John Kerr, Todd Helmus, Jack Pugh and RL Smith for all the loads they have helped us with during this "off-year".

HELP WANTED

We need volunteers to help pick-up donations during the year.

Trucks and strong backs greatly appreciated.

Parish News Editors’ Report

The Parish News is an important means of communication in the life of The First Parish Church.   The Parish News is published weekly between September and mid-June except for those weeks which include a holiday.  The newsletter is mailed to approximately 405 households.    Recipients are also given the choice of receiving The Parish News via email.   62 individuals have chosen this option.

Reading The Parish News is the best way of keeping in touch with the many activities and events of the church, including committee meetings and reports, the church school’s weekly schedule, and community happenings of interest to the readership.  “The Opinion Forum” is open to anyone wishing to express an opinion, share a view, or pass along news about issues felt to be of interest.  Each issue includes the Sunday sermon and the prayers offered by the lay leaders.   Weekly sermons, prayers, and a list of parish activities are also

available on line at www.FirstParishInLincoln.org.

All submissions must be 200 words or less to be considered for publication and must be submitted no later than 8:30 on Mondays. The editors encourage submissions be made by email to fplincoln@aol.com or by fax to 781 259 9212.  The submitted material is then reviewed, edited and assembled by the editors and a rough draft is then passed along to Gert McDermott who masterfully and efficiently transforms it all into its final, publishable format.

The pre-press copy is proof-read with the able assistance of Barbara Sisson, then returned to Gert who produces the final copy.  The newsletter is now produced using the church’s newly purchased high-speed copier which collates and staples the copies in a very short amount of time and at a lower cost than the former method.  We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the former volunteer collators who for many years kept the Parish News arriving in mailboxes each week.
