How to Get Involved at First Parish in LincolnGetting involved in church activities, events and groups can be one of the best ways to get to know your church community. It is also a great way to deepen relationships with your fellow parishioners. Here are some of the ways you can further your experience at First Parish in Lincoln.
1. Attend one of the many Adult Education classes being offered. A whole host of diverse and fascinating subjects are offered each year at First Parish, ranging from the religious and scholarly to the illuminating and spiritual. Many, if not most of these classes are offered free. Look in the Parish News and on the website to find out what is currently being offered. 2) Become a Church School teacher. You don’t need a degree in education or prior experience in schools to join First Parish’s extraordinary Church School team. All you need is enthusiasm and a love of children. Contact our Director of Religious Education, Kimberly Luck, for more info. kimberlyluck@firstparishinlincoln.org 3) Sign up for one of the many volunteer outreach opportunities. Each month, there are various opportunities to offer up your time and energy to a worthy cause. Check the Parish News for events where you can help lend a hand. 4) Join up with the church choir. We are blessed with a wonderful choir led by the inimitable Malcolm Hawkins. A fluency in music theory or previous vocal training isn’t required. Just be prepared to sing. The choir practices on Thursday evenings. If interested, contact our church administrator Gert McDermott at (781) 259-8118 x 10, or gertmcdermott@firstparishinlincoln.org 5) Or if singing isn’t your cup of tea, try the bell choir. Several times a year, First Parish rolls out its beloved bell choir. The bell choir rehearses on Tuesday afternoons. The only requirement to join the choir is the ability to read music. 6) Become an usher. Ushering the services can be a great way to get to know how the church operates each Sunday morning. It’s also a wonderful chance to meet people in your church community. To sign up to be an usher, contact our church administrator Gert McDermott (gertmcdermott@firstparishinlincoln.org) who will put you in touch with the current Deacon Chair. You can also call her at (781) 259-8118 x 10. 7) Join one of the small group meetings. A handful of small discussion groups meet regularly to talk, debate and explore a range of issues from current events to matters of spirituality. For more information on the small group meetings, contact Roger Paine at (781) 259-8118 x11 or rogerpaine@firstparishinlincoln.org 8) Inquire about getting on a committee. First Parish is chock full of committees, some more intensive than others. Depending on your area of interest or expertise, you are sure to find a committee that feels right for you. Check the Committees section of the website for more information. Note: Some committees have new members appointed for one to three year terms, while others are always accepting new members. 9) Sign up for the popular Dinners for Seven program. Whether attending a dinner as a guest or hosting one yourself, Dinners for Seven is one of the best ways to meet your fellow parishioners. Sign-up sheets are located in the foyer of the church. You can also sign up by contacting the church administrator Gert McDermott who will put you in touch with the organizer. You can contact Gert at (781) 259-8118 x 10, or gertmcdermott@firstparishinlincoln.org 10) Help out with seasonal events like May Market and the Touch of Christmas Fair. Join in on the spirit of the season with these festive yearly events that raise money for the church and for various worthy causes. For those with a knack for arts and crafts, these events would benefit greatly from your expertise. |
