Sunday School Classes for Spring Semester

Kindergarten and Grade 1:
Around the Church, Around the Year
This year the children will become familiar with our church community; its people, stories and rituals. They will also learn about our Jewish and Christian heritage out of which our faith and traditions at First Parish have grown. They will engage in celebrations of holidays and other special events. Children will be taught the importance of ritual, celebration, tradition and wonder.
Room: Downstairs, far room

Teachers: Laura Regrut, Linda Hammet-Ory, Lynda Engstrom

Grade 2, 3 and 4:
Spirit Play
Children will be introduced to stories from children's literature, the Bible and mythology through this exciting program loosely based on the child-centered, Montessori method. This multi-sensory approach allows for everyone to interpret their inner wonder in their own way.
Room: Donaldson
Teachers: Jeff Patterson and Barb Rhines

Grade 5: Moral Progress: From Abraham to Jesus
As a framework for learning The Bible, we find indications of moral progress in The Old Testament and The Gospel. We use time lines and maps to position them in time and place.  We learn about the basic teachings of Jesus and how they challenge us in His Sermon on the Mount, The Beatitudes, and parables.
Room: Styron
Teachers: Rhoda and Kemon Taschioglou

Grade 6: Neighboring Faiths
Students explore their own and our neighbor's religious beliefs and practices. Students learn about Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Nature based religions, Chinese religions and Buddhism. Guest presenters often come to class and special foods enhance the multicultural experience. Throughout the year, students travel to local places of worship to see and learn for themselves how others worship.
Room: Stage in Auditorium
Teachers: Nancy Flemming, Sandy Hessler and Anne Doyle

Grade 7: Beyond the Breakfast Table
Group building, relationships, creative worship, social action and food are a few of the things that are central to the activities of the Breakfast Club. Each week students and their leaders gather for a "real breakfast," then meet for discussion and activities.
Room: Kitchen
Teachers: Heidi Nichols and Janet Flory
